WDB TRUST
About WDB Trust
Founded on 9 August 1991, WDB Trust was created to
empower women and rural communities during South
Africa’s early days of democracy. At its inception, the
Trust aimed to combat the severe poverty affecting
women in rural areas, who represented the majority
of those living below the subsistence level. The
Trust’s mission is to empower women as leaders of
their own destinies, promoting economic and social
upliftment.
Our Approach to Poverty Alleviation
WDB Trust focuses on empowering women, who often manage household resources, to create a positive impact on families and communities. Through education, training, and financial services like microloans, the Trust provides women with the tools needed to achieve economic independence.
Empowering Women and Communities
Beyond financial aid, WDB Trust offers access to education, training, and resources, helping women build skills and confidence to break the
poverty cycle. This comprehensive support enables women to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Fostering Unity and Advocacy
The Trust also promotes unity and self-esteem through advocacy, raising awareness of the challenges women face, and championing gender equality. By building a supportive network, WDB Trust fosters community and solidarity among women.
Enabling Self-Reliance
WDB Trust empowers women’s self-reliance by offering financial services like microloans and non-financial tools, including business training, mentorship, and networking, helping them achieve economic independence and contribute to community development.
Impact and Legacy
Since its founding, WDB Trust has empowered women, particularly in South Africa, by fostering sustainable, community-driven change. Through its focus on women’s roles, it has improved lives and promoted more inclusive, equitable societies.
